Four Flyers Named To United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Team

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The United Soccer Coaches announced on Tuesday (Dec. 7) that Lewis University's men's soccer team had four players named to the All-Midwest Region squad. The Flyers had two players earn first team honors in senior midfielder Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler) and senior forward Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) while junior forward Aris Oluwatuyi (Lagos, Nigeria/The International Sports Academy) was named to the second team and senior midfielder Matt Budreck (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) landed on the third team.

Baumann was tied for the team lead in goals this season with Mwanga with seven and was second on the team in points with 18. He recorded at one least one point in 10 games this season and had at least one goal in six games including a season-high two goals in the 3-3 double overtime draw against Parkside on Sept. 5. Baumann finished the season ranked fifth in the GLVC in points and was tied for sixth in goals scored. He was named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-Midwest Region First Team last week and was a First Team All-GLVC selection.

Mwanga led the Flyers in scoring this season with 21 points tallying seven goals and seven assists. He was tied for the team lead with Baumann in goals scored and led the squad in assists. He is tied for second in the GLVC in points scored, fourth in assists and tied for sixth in goals scored. Mwanga recorded at least one point in 12 games this season including a season-high four points in the 3-0 win at Missouri S&T in the regular season finale on Oct. 31. He scored the game-winning in Lewis' 2-0 win over Davenport in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Mwanga was a D2CCA All-Midwest Region Second Team selection and was named First Team All-GLVC.

Oluwatuyi was third on the team in scoring this season recording six goals and adding four assists for a total of 16 points. Five of his six goals came during the final six games of the regular season.  He is tied for second in the GLVC in game-winning goals with four, is tied for eighth in points with and tied for 10th in goals. Oluwatuyi was named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 1 and the United Soccer Coaches Division National Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 3.

Budreck started all 20 games for the Flyers this season scoring a goal and adding two assists for a total of four points while taking seven shots and putting four of those on goal. He scored his lone goal of the season in the first round NCAA Tournament game against Davenport on Nov. 18 at Lake Erie heading home a corner kick from the top of the penalty area to give Lewis an insurance goal. He had an assist on a goal in the 2-0 win over Southwest Baptist on Oct. 24 and picked up another assist in the 3-0 win at Missouri S&T in the regular season finale.

The Flyers finished their season with a record of 12-5-3, 9-3-2 GLVC and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013.
