MANKATO, Minn. – Lewis University's women's track and field team finished third with 72.5 points at Minnesota State's Mark Shuck Open and Multi meet on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 28-29) in Mankato, Minn. The Flyers had 17 top 10 finishes at the event.
Alecea Cardillo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) picked up the only event win for the Flyers as she won the triple jump with a season best mark of 12.04 meters (39'6") and earned a provisional qualifying mark for the national meet in the process.
Recording second-place finishes at the two-day meet were
Jada Hoffman (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) in the 60 meters,
Natasha Bernett (McAlpin, Ill./Lane Tech) in the 60 meter hurdles and
Malen De La Fuente (Irun, Spain/Universal School)s in the pole vault.
Lewis' 4x400 meter relay team of Bernett,
Faith Wyman (Trenton, Ill./Trenton (Wesclin)), Hoffman and
Kyla Chalmers (Elk Grove Village, Ill./James B. Conant) finished third in the event with a time of 3:59.93.
The Flyers return to the track next Saturday (Feb. 5) as they take part in Olivet Nazarene's Walter Cramer Invite beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Bourbonnais, Ill.
