INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University's women's track and field team won its third straight Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship title, its seventh in the last eight years and ninth since 2010 on Sunday. The Flyers finished the meet with 173.5 points and defeated seventh ranked Indianapolis by 12 points for the team title.
Alecea Cardillo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) was named the GLVC's Field Athlete of the Year after she won both the long and triple jumps and head coach
Dana Schwarting was named the GLVC's Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year.
Tori Hagg (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah Community HS) was named Lewis' nominee for the GLVC's James R. Spalding Sportsmanship award.
The Flyers picked up 15 points in the 60 meters as
Jada Hoffman (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) broke her own school record to win the race in a time of 7.49 seconds while
Rose-Marie Ogbuli (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) took fourth in a time of 7.77 seconds.
Hoffman came back later in the afternoon and won the 200 meters in a time of 24.56 seconds.
Kyla Chalmers (Elk Grove Village, Ill./James B. Conant) finished sixth at 25.77 seconds and Ogbuli came in eighth at 26.47 seconds. Chalmers also finished sixth in the 400 meters in a time of 59.06 seconds.
Anna Kozak (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) finished fifth in the mile turning in a time of 4:57.39 which is a provisional qualifying mark. Kozak also finished eighth in the 3000 meters while
Kassady Learn (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) came in fourth with a provisional qualifying time of 10:01.39.
Arianna Amill-Ramos (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) and Learn finished fourth and sixth respectively in the 5000 meters. Amill-Ramos finished at 17:24.25 and Learn came in at 17:33.75 both of which were provisional qualifying marks.
Lewis scored 13 points in the 60 meter hurdles with
Natasha Bernett (McAlpin, Ill./Lane Tech) winning the race in a time of 8.71 seconds while
Allison Mack (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park HS) came in sixth at 9.13 seconds.
The Flyers 4x400 meter relay team of Chalmers,
Vivica Phillips (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South HS),
Essence Winters (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) and Bernett took third in a time of 3:58.18.
Nadia Roberts (Burbank, Ill./Burbank (Reavis)) and
Aliza Van Den Elzen (Hortonville, Wis./Hortonville) finished third and sixth in the high jump clearing the bar at heights of 1.64 meters (5'4.5") and 1.59 meters (5'2.5") respectively.
Jamie Poppen (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) finished fifth in the pole vault clearing the bar with a vault of 3.54 meters (11'7.25").
Lewis had six of the top eight finishers in the triple jump with Cardillo recording the winning jump of 12.16 meters (39'10.75").
Jaden Christian (Braidwood, Ill./Braidwood (Reed-Custer)) was second at 11.88 meters (38'11.75"), Bernett finished fourth at 11.66 meters (38'3.25"),
Anna Laudizio (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) came in fifth at 11.39 meters (37'4.5"),
Jena Martin (Smithville, Mo./Smithville) was sixth at 11.24 meters (36'10.5") and Hagg took eighth at 10.99 meters (36'0.75").
Ratkoslava Karac (Greenfield, Wis./Greenfield) won the shot put hitting a provisional mark of 14.05 meters (46'1.25") while
Kylie Wymer (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) finished fifth with a heave of 12.78 meters (41'11.25").
The Flyers will find out on Tuesday (March 1) how many representatives they'll be sending to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Pittsburg State on March 11 and 12.
