ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's track and field won its first outdoor meet of the season scoring 204 points at the Miner Invitational hosted by Missouri S&T at Allgood-Bailey Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Flyers scored 62 of their points in the jump events, 59 in the springs, 44 in the hurdles and 39 in the throws.
Lewis took the top three spots in the 100 meter hurdles with
Natasha Bernett (McAlpin, Ill./Lane Tech) winning the event with a provisional time of 14.30 seconds while
Allison Mack (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park HS) was second at 15.65 seconds and
Aliza Van Den Elzen (Hortonville, Wis./Hortonville) finished third in a time of 15.92 seconds.
The Flyers claimed six of the top 10 spots in the 100 meters with
Jada Hoffman (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) winning the event with a provisional qualifying time of 11.76 seconds while
Rose-Marie Ogbuli (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) finished second at 12.12 seconds.
Alexandra Martinez (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfeild Central),
Selena Tucker (Eastvale, Calif.),
Jena Martin (Smithville, Mo./Smithville) and
Kamryn Kolb (Wyanet, Ill./Bureau Valley HS) were sixth, seventh, eighth and 10th with times of 12.79, 12.90, 12.93 and 12.97 respectively.
Kyla Chalmers (Elk Grove Village, Ill./James B. Conant) and
Vivica Phillips (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South HS) were second and fourth in the 400 meters with Chalmers finishing at 59.28 seconds and Phillips came in at 1:00.58.
Bernett picked up her second event win of the day as she won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:04.66 while
Essence Winters (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) finished third at 1:10.40 and Mack was fifth with a time of 1:11.08.
Lewis had five sprinters finish in the top nine of the 200 meters led by Hoffman with a time of 24.64 seconds. Chalmers and Ogbuli were second and third at 24.86 and 25.92 seconds respectively while
Faith Wyman (Trenton, Ill./Trenton (Wesclin)) took eighth at 26.76 and Martinez came in ninth at 26.88 seconds.
Kylie Wymer (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) and
Ratkoslava Karac (Greenfield, Wis./Greenfield) finished second and third in the shot put. Wymer's best toss was 12.74 meters (41'9.75") while Karac's was 12.25 meters (40'2.25").
The Flyers finished first through fourth in the long jump with
Jaden Christian (Braidwood, Ill./Braidwood (Reed-Custer)) winning the event with a leap of 5.80 meters (19'0.5"). Kolb was second with her best jump of 5.73 meters (18'9.75"),
Alecea Cardillo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) finished third with a leap of 5.70 meters (18'8.5") and Martin was fourth at 5.37 meters (17'7.5").
Anna Laudizio (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) finished first while
Tori Hagg (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah Community HS) was third in the triple jump. Laudizio won the event with a leap of 11.75 meters (38'6.75") while Hagg's best jump was 10.69 meters (35'1").
Nadia Roberts (Burbank, Ill./Burbank (Reavis)) took third in the high jump clearing the bar at height of 1.63 meters (5'4.25").
Jamie Poppen (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) and
Katelyn Gall (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) were third and fourth in the pole vault. Poppen cleared the bar at a height of 3.30 meters (10'10") while Gall cleared at 2.85 meters (9'4.25").
Lewis had three finish in the top five of the javelin with Bernett picking up her third event win of the competition. She won the event with a heave of 39.78 meters (130'6"), Van Den Elzen was third at 38.47 meters (126'2") and Poppen came in fifth at 36.80 meters (120'9").
Wymer was also fourth in the hammer throw with a heave of 42.51 meters (139'5") and seventh in the discus with a toss of 33.72 meters (110'7") while Karac was second in the distance with a heave of 40.48 meters (132'10").
The Flyers return to the track next Friday and Saturday (April 1-2) as they compete in the Joey Haines Invite hosted by Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
