Box Score 2 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University softball team dropped two games to Drury Saturday (April 23) at Lewis Softball Field. The Flyers fall to 21-23 overall, 7-15 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Panthers move to 32-11 overall, 18-4 in the GLVC.
Game 1 - Drury 7, Lewis 0
The Panthers picked up two runs in the first inning on a RBI double by Sydney Sneed. Lewis put two runners on base in the bottom of the second with a single by
Evie Calderon (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) and with
Carrie Anderson (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah Community) being hit by pitch. They advanced to second and third with two outs on a sacrifice bunt, but a strikeout ended the inning.
Lewis got runners on second and third again in the third inning on hits by
Gabi Nilles (North Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) and
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, Ill./Unity), but again a strike out ended the threat.Â
Drury opened up the game in the seventh inning, scoring five runs on three hits with five Flyer errors.
Kristina Bettis (20-2) earned the win for the Panthers, scattering five hits, while striking out nine.
Sara Serena (Kankakee, Ill./Kankakee) (3-3) suffered the loss, allowing eight hits and seven runs, three earned, in 6.1 innings.
Game 2 - Drury 11, Lewis 1, 5 innings
The Panthers took control with five runs in the first inning as a pair of doubles scored three runs, a wild pitch scored a fourth and a fly out scored the fifth.
The Flyers came back with a run in the bottom of the third inning as
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, Ill./H.D. Jacobs) and Powell singled, setting up Serena, who singled home Garden to make it 5-1.
Drury responded with a home run in the fourth inning and added five more in the fifth on a pair of two run home runs and a double.
Karsyn Smith (6-4) picked up the win, going five innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run, striking out five.
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) (8-7) suffered the loss. Powell and Garden had two hits each for the Flyers.
Lewis wraps up its home slate Monday (April 25) with a doubleheader against Southwest Baptist beginning at 11 a.m.
