ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's track and field team competed at the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Open in its final tune-up before next weekend's Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship meet at Southwest Baptist.
Aliza Van Den Elzen (Hortonville, Wis./Hortonville) had the best finish for the Flyers at the Drake Relays as she placed sixth in the javelin with a heave of 42.17 meters (138'4") which was also good for a provisional qualifying mark.
Alecea Cardillo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) finished 14th in the triple jump with a leap of 11.96 meters (39'3")
Lewis' sprint medley relay team of
Rose-Marie Ogbuli (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East),
Alexandra Martinez (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfeild Central),
Vivica Phillips (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South HS) and
Kyla Chalmers (Elk Grove Village, Ill./James B. Conant) took 14th in the Division 3 finals with a time of 4:22.52.
Jada Hoffman (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) finished 19th in the prelims of the 100 meters with a time of 12.41 seconds and
Natasha Bernett (McAlpin, Ill./Lane Tech) was 28th in the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.11 seconds.
On Thursday and Friday the Flyers competed at Simpson College's Kip Janvrin Open.
Nadia Roberts (Burbank, Ill./Burbank (Reavis)) had the highest finish as she was fifth in the high jump clearing the bar at 1.58 meters (5'2.25").
Kassady Learn (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) placed eight in the 1500 meters with a season-best time of 4:42.15.
Ratkoslava Karac (Greenfield, Wis./Greenfield) was ninth in the shot put with a heave of 12.68 meters (41'7.25") and took 14th in the discus with a heave of 39.08 meters (128'2").
Caroline Pacer (Wheaton, Ill./West Chicago) turned in a personal best time of 17:53.43 to finish 13th in the 5000 meters.
Jade Miller (Dixon, Ill./Dixon HS) finished 13th in the steeplechase with a time of 11:43.04.
Allison Mack (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park HS) was 14th in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.82 seconds.
Essence Winters (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) was 21st in the 400-meter hurdle finals in a time of 1:10.55 and took 27th in the 100 meters with a time of 13.09 seconds.
The Flyers head to Bolivar, Mo., next weekend as they look to win their sixth consecutive GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
