Flyer Feature: Elisa Aguilar

Lewis Athletics is proud to introduce "Flyer Features," a series spotlighting the incredible individuals who make our program soar. From former and current student-athletes to coaches, staff, and supporters, these stories will celebrate the people driving our success. Join us as we share their journeys, accomplishments, and the impact they've made on the Flyers family.

Elisa Aguilar (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East)'s journey to Lewis University began close to home but has taken her far in growth and accomplishments. The fifth-year senior from Plainfield has been a cornerstone of the Flyers' women's soccer program, playing in 84 matches with 71 starts, tallying 13 goals and six assists. Her senior season stood out, earning All-GLVC Second Team honors and a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Third Team.

"I always wanted to go somewhere far away, but the best situation for me ended up being in my own backyard," Aguilar jokes, reflecting on her decision to attend Lewis, just eight miles from home. "After my visit, I knew this was the place for me."

Elisa Aguilar-1027Recap

Aguilar's time at Lewis has been defined by more than just soccer. Graduating with a degree in Sports Management and a minor in Spanish, she's combined her passions to prepare for a career in the sports industry.

"I've always loved sport—it's been a gateway for me to get an education," she shared. "Lewis helped provide me with the resources to be successful."

Aguilar's decision to minor in Spanish stemmed from her upbringing, where the language was often spoken in her home, though she didn't grow up speaking it herself. "I wanted to learn it, especially since I hope to stay involved in soccer," she explained. "Being fluent in Spanish is a valuable tool that I know will open doors in my career, whether working with players, families, or organizations."

The challenges of playing collegiate soccer shaped Aguilar into a versatile and resilient player. "I'm five foot and a little over 110 pounds," she said laughing, "so the physicality was a big adjustment. I learned to use my size as an advantage."

Early minutes as a freshman and her first career assist gave her the confidence to thrive. "That was my moment of, 'OK, I can do this.'"

From early nerves to lifting the first team championship in over 20 years during her senior year, Aguilar's career was filled with highlights she'll carry forever. "Winning that championship is something I'll never forget," she said. "It was the culmination of all the preparation and hard work."

Off the field, her love of soccer extended into an internship with Toca Soccer in Naperville, where she hopes to stay connected to the game post-graduation. With plans to explore roles in marketing, sales, or operations, Aguilar is open to new opportunities while cherishing the connections she's made. "Lewis is great because it's a family," she said. "I've enjoyed every connection here, even ones I never expected."

As she prepares to move forward, Aguilar reflects on the lasting impact of her experience at Lewis.

"Whether it's in soccer or life, it's all about preparation," she said. For Aguilar, the next chapter is just beginning, but the legacy she leaves behind will inspire those who follow.
