East Peoria, Ill. -
Lewis University senior first baseman Stephanie Harmon (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield South) (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield South) and junior catcher Mary Giancarlo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) batted a combined 5-for-6 with six RBI to help the No. 25 Flyers to the 7-0 victory over top-seeded Missouri-St. Louis in a Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Tournament showdown at the Eastside Centre on Saturday afternoon.

The Flyers (33-11) now advance to the GLVC Softball Championship on Sunday (May 8) at noon against either Quincy or UMSL.

Harmon went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, while Giancarlo was 3-for-3 with three RBI. Giancarlo is now 7-for-9 with seven RBI for the tournament.

"Mary (Giancarlo) is hitting the ball as well as she has all season," Lewis head softball coach George DiMatteo said. "It's really amazing how much power she's putting into the ball. I'm really happy and proud for her.

"Stephanie (Harmon) just let loose with a lot of pent up energy (with her homer)," DiMatteo continued. "She knows she hasn't been hitting the ball well and i think it felt really good for her and gave her some confidence after that homer."

Lewis senior pitcher Diana Pickrum (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) earned the complete-game shutout victory for the Flyers. Pickrum (15-4) alllowed five hits and struck out six batters in the win for the Flyers. The Lewis pitching staff has not allowed a run in its last 32.1 innings pitched.

"We have pitchers who make opposing hitters swing when they don't want to. and when they do hit the ball hard, we still come up with the play," DiMatteo said of the scoreless streak. "Our pitchers have full confidence in our defense and our defense has the full confidence of our pitchers.""
