VS. OHIO STATE – Lewis lost 3-2 (25-23, 25-27, 34-32, 16-25, 16-14) in Columbus on March 13. Ohio State's Michael Henchy had a record night, hitting .756 with 32 kills on 41 swings with one error. It is Lewis' only loss in MIVA play this season. Lewis has not lost to Ohio State twice in once season since losing to the Buckeyes for the second time during the MIVA Semifinals in 2011
VS. MCKENDREE – Lewis won at McKendree 3-1 (25-14, 25-23, 23-25, 25-15) on March 19.
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) had 17 kills in the match as Lewis closed the fourth set with six consecutive points to win the contest.
Â
ON THE LINE – A win by Lewis in either match this weekend would clinch the No. 1 seed in the 2015 MIVA Tournament.
HOME COOKING – Lewis enters the final week of the regular season 10-0 at home. The last time Lewis finished a season, including postseason play, undefeated at home was 2012 when Lewis went 16-0.
SENIOR WEEKEND BREAKDOWN – Lewis will honor
Lucas Yanez (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs),
Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont),
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) and
Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) prior to Friday's match.
Andy Orf (St. Charles, Mo./Christian Brothers),
Tom Logan (Kenmore, Wash./Bishop Blanchet),
Eric Butch (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) and
James Hofmann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Archbishop McNicholas) will be honored prior to Saturday's match. Since 2012, this group owns a 53-5 record at Neil Carey Arena. This group has helped Lewis win two regular season MIVA Championships, make two NCAA Tournament Appearances and three trips to the MIVA Championship match with a MIVA championship in 2012.
FOUR MORE – Lewis has yet to lose a fourth set this season. The Flyers hold a 10-0 record in the fourth game.
MIVA TOURNAMENT TIME – Lewis will host a MIVA Tournament Quarterfinal game on Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m. Should Lewis win, the Flyers could also a semifinal match on Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m. The MIVA Championship will be held Friday, May 1 at 7 p.m. at the highest seed remaining.
FEWEST LOSSES IN SIGHT – The fewest losses by a Lewis team in program history is the 1996's 31-5 mark. Should Lewis win both matches this weekend, Lewis could only add two more losses to their ledger this year, in the MIVA and NCAA Tournaments. This means Lewis could clinch the record for fewest losses in a season by winning both contests this weekend.
