Lewis Women's Basketball Defeats Central State 74-44 Wednesday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University women's basketball team defeated Central State 74-44 Wednesday (Dec. 17) in a non-conference contest at Neil Carey Arena. It was the second win in three days for the Flyers (4-7).
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
 Yahaira Bueno (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) (6 assists) and Ally Cesarini (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) (4 blocks) scored 14 points each to lead Lewis, while Kree Nunnally (Crystal Lake, Ill./Example Academy) and Jasmine Jones (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) (9 rebounds) had nine points each.

Ma'Kayla Williams scored 12 points to lead Central St.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Central State (2-9) scored the first seven points of the contest before Lewis answered with 12 in a row to lead 12-7 with 2:46 left in the quarter as a Jones three-pointer finished the run. The Marauders scored the next basket but Lewis finished with the final six points of the quarter to lead 18-9 after one.
 
Lewis extended the run to 11 straight points to open the second quarter and took a 23-9 lead after a Gabi Hoover (Mishawaka, Ind./La Lumiere) three-pointer. The Flyers held Central State scoreless over the final 4:33 of the half, scoring the final 12 points of the half as Bueno finished the half with a pair of three-pointers to take a 39-16 lead at the half.
 
Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, Ill./Loyola Chicago) made it 14 straight Flyer points with a jumper to open the third quarter scoring. Lewis steadily built its lead to 29 points in the third quarter before taking a 55-27 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
The largest lead of the game was 34 points at 68-34 on a Danica Gosz (Germantown, WI/Germantown) three-pointer with 2:26 before the Marauders cut the deficit to 30 by the end of the game. Lewis shot 57.1 percent from the floor (24-of-42) and 60 percent (9-of-15) from beyond the arc. It outrebounded Central State 36-20.
 
POSTGAME COMMENTS GAME NOTES
  • Today marked the first time since March 1, 2025 against Upper Iowa where Lewis held an opponent to a sub-20% three-point percentage. That game, the Peacocks shot just 18 percent from beyond the arc. 
  • Cesarini has 19 steals in her past four games
  • First time shooting over 55 percent from the floor since Feb. 19, 2024 when the Flyers shot 60.4 percent at Illinois Springfield.
