The program posted a 55-13 record en route to the program’s first-ever NCAA Division II Championship Game appearance. The Flyers went 19-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, winning the GLVC Regular Season crown. The Flyers were coached by George DiMatteo, recently inducted into the Hall of Fame.  Lewis was led by All-NFCA Great Lakes Region players Kim Mackinson and Amanda Driscoll that season. Lewis won four straight games during the GLVC Softball Tournament hosted by Parkside to win the GLVC Tournament Championship as a result, the Flyers earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regionals and hosted the entire tournament in Romeoville and proceeded to win the midwest after defeating SIU-Edwardsville in the midwest region championship game. The Flyers then went onto to compete in the NCAA Division II Championships in Salem, Virginia. The Flyers defeated Eastern New Mexico, Alabama-Huntsville and Humboldt State en route to the national championship game.
