Chuck Schwarz

Chuck Schwarz played both baseball and basketball for the Flyers.  His 1962 baseball team competed in the NAIA National Baseball Tournament.
 
Through a fine athlete in his years at Lewis University, Schwarz distinguished himself as one of the finest basketball coaches in the Midwest in the years following his graduation.
 
At St. Laurence High School, Schwarz served as basketball coach, athletic director and teacher.  He compiled a record of 260-96 in 15 years and was named Coach of the Year in the Chicago Catholic League and unprecedented six times.
 
Schwarz moved to the college ranks when he was appointed head basketball coach at Lewis University in 1978.  He immediately turned a struggling program into a winner.  He compiled a record of 160-87 in nine seasons.  His last five Lewis teams all won 20 or more games and qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championship.  He was named Coach of the Year in the Great Lakes Valley Conference three times.   He departed Lewis in 1986 to assume the duties of Athletic Director at Loyola University in Chicago.
 
Schwarz is married and lives in Oak Forest, Illinois with his wife Joan and three children – Sandra, Andrew and Daniel.
