Diane Tajak was an explosive scorer who led the Lewis women’s soccer program to its greatest success.
Tajak was named All-American first team, All-Central Region first team, Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year and Lewis’ co-Most Valuable Player in 1995, a year the Flyers won a school-record 16 games (16-4-2), captured GLVC regular-season and postseason tournament titles, earned the program’s first NCAA Division II Tournament bid and were ranked No. 6 nationally in Division II. She led Division II in goals (27) and ranked third nationally in points (59), both Lewis records as of 2002.
Tajak tallied 16 goals and eight assists in 1994 as the Flyers posted a 15-3-1 record. She led the team in scoring her freshman season (16 goals, one assist, 33 points) and tied for the team lead as a sophomore (9-9-27). As of 2002, Tajak, who started 75 of the Flyers’ 77 games during her career, is second in points (159) and goals (68) and tied for second in assists (23), on Lewis’ all-time lists, and she played on teams that compiled a four-year record of 50-23-4 for a .675 winning percentage.
