A standout on the diamond during the early years of the Lewis softball program, Carolyn Early was a trailblazer for the Flyers.

The second three-time All-GLVC honoree (1986, 87, 88) for the Flyers in program history, Early never was on a team that was below .500, highlighted by a 36-17 ledger and first place regular season conference finish in 1987. Early also was apart of the first Lewis softball teams to win consecutive championships when the Flyers captured the 1987 and 88 GLVC Softball Championship Tournament titles. 

Early was the fifth women's softball player to be inducted to the Lewis Athletics Hall of Fame with her addition in 2009.
