Michael Mariani

Mike Mariani played football and baseball for the Flyers from 1951-1955.  He was a four year regular on the football team.  In 1951 his team won the Corn Bowl.  He was named Most Valuable Player by his teammates in 1955.  He was the leading scorer in his senior year and the leading ground gainer with an average of 5.3 yards per carry.  In 1955 he was named to the All Catholics All-American Team and received special mention to the Little All-American Team. He was a utility infielder with the baseball team.  Upon graduation Mike was drafted by the Chicago Cardinals, now the St. Louis Cardinals Football Team.
 
Mariani has coached six conference championship football teams and three conference baseball championship teams.  In 1984 he was inducted into the Illinois High School Hall of Fame.  He has also coached in the World Football League and the United States Football League.
 
Mike and his wife Shirley are the parents of three children.  He is a teacher and coach at Ridgewood High School in Norridge, Illinois.
