Rude carved her niche in Flyer softball history as both a pitcher and hitter. She holds Lewis' career pitching record of 53 victories, a .626 winning percentage (53 wins, 20 losses) and a 0.95 earned run average, and her 311 career strikeouts rank first in Flyer annals. Rude's career .314 batting average is 16th best on the Lewis chart, and she recorded 62 runs batted in while striking out just nine times in more than 400 plate appearances.
In 1987 Rude's 15-7 record and 0.78 ERA helped lead the Flyers to a 36-17 record and their first NCAA Division II national tournament bid. She was named GLVC "Player of the Year," and earned a spot on the Division II all-Central Region team for the third consecutive year. She was named to the all-GLVC and all-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference teams as a sophomore (15-5 pitching record, team-leading .361 batting average). Rude's teams were a combined 130-59 during her career.
