Marty distinguished himself as a defensive end even though he played both ways.  The 1949 team posted an 8-0-0 record, while winning the Badger-Illini Conference.  The 1951 team went 7-1-0, won the Midlands Conference and went on to post a victory in the Corn Bowl.  The 1948 team also captured the Badger-Illini Conference Title, while the 1950 team won the Midlands Conference Title.

Thuerk was voted All-Conference Defensive End in the Badger-Illini Conference in both 1948 and 1949.  He was voted All Midlands Conference in 1952 and was elected to the All Catholic-All American Team the same year.

Thuerk is in Retail Sales with Old Style Brewing Company.  He is married and the father of eight children.  He also has five grandchildren.
