David Casillas was a member of the cross country team from 1977-1979. Prior to attending Lewis, Dave finished forty-third in the nation at the National AAU Cross Country Championships in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Casillas was District 20 State Champion in 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979.
Not content with running on flat ground Casillas entered and won the prestigious Pike’s Peak Ascent Uphill Race in 1977.
In 1978, he finished fourth in the nation in the Outdoor National Championships, the highest individual finish ever in Lewis history. He was captain of the 1978 team.
Dave was named to the Outdoor All-American Team in 1977 and 1978. In 1979, he was named to the Indoor All-American Team. Casillas currently holds records in the indoor three-mile run and the outdoor 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs. Casillas is Retail Sales Manager for Athletes Foot, Oak Brook, Illinois. He is married and the father of one son.
