Greg Washburn was the first Lewis baseball player to play in the Major Leagues. Washburn was the California Angels' top draft choice (19th player drafted overall) in 1967 following his sophomore year, and he reached the parent club in 1969.
Washburn was 9-1 with a 1.93 ERA for the 1967 Flyers, who won the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) title, played in the NAIA regional tournament and posted a 24-11 record. He was voted to the all district and All-CCAC first teams.
