Recently retired as professor and chairman of Lewis' Aviation Department(35 years of servive, 17 as chairman), Bonacci is credited with starting and firmly establishing the Track and Field and Cross Country Programs at Lewis University. During his 17 year tenure as coach, Bonacci and his program gained others' respect, as he was twice named the NAIA District 20 Coach of the Year in 1974.
During his time as chairman of the Aviation Department, Bonacci piloted the department from an enrollment of 160 students in 1974 to one that, in 1992, has more than 400 majors in 11 different aviation tracks. His academic awards include the Christian Brothers Lasallian Award in 1977, the Signum Fidei Award for 25 years of service in 1985, and the Faculty Member of the Year Award in 1990.
