Point guard Rosemary Turner was an exciting catalyst for the Lewis basketball team during her four-year career.
Turner made an immediate impact and earned Lewis’ Most Improved Player award as a freshman, averaging 10.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 3.2 steals per game to help lead the Flyers to a 21-8 record, the GLVC Title, and an NCAA Division II Tournament bid. Lewis posted a 22-7 record, repeated as GLVC champion and returned to the national tournament in Turner’s sophomore season.Â
Turner was a Flyer co-captain in her junior season and responded well to the leadership challenge; averaging 13 points, 3.6 rebounds, five assists and 2.9 steals per game and shooting a career best 49.7 percent from the field. She concluded her career by serving as team captain and earning Flyers’ Most Valuable Player award in her senior campaign with per-game averages of 14.4 points, four rebounds, 6.4 assists and 2.1 steals.
As of 2002 Turner’s 449 career assists was a Lewis record, and she was ranked seventh on the Flyers’ career scoring list with 1,261 points. In 113 career games she averaged 11.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, four assists, and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 47.4 percent from the field.
