Debra Deacon-DiMatteo

Debbie DiMatteo participated in basketball, softball, track & field, and volleyball from 1973-1977.  She is the only woman athlete to be a member of the original team in each sport.  Debbie earned twelve letters during this four year period.  She was voted the Most Improved Player Award in volleyball in 1974, and in track & field in 1975.  She was also awarded the Sportsmanship Award in track & field during the 1975 season.
 
Her accomplishments upon graduation are even more remarkable.  She is an assistant professor of physical education at Illinois Benedictine College where she also serves as head volleyball coach and softball coach.  Her career coaching record in volleyball is 238-65.  Her volleyball team has appeared in five straight Division III National Tournaments.  Her 1981 team finished fourth in the nation.  Her team also captured five straight Northern Illinois Intercollegiate Conference championships, where her team has not lost a game in five years.  Her career coaching record in softball is 102-51.  Her softball team has participated in two national tournaments.  DiMatteo has produced four All-Americans in both volleyball and softball.
 
DiMatteo was the first female Lewis graduate to earn a position as a collegiate coach.
 
She is married and the mother of one child.
